Opensource with Web 2.0 Experience in Education

Web 2.0 is not a technology, but user experiences generated by a set of technologies and practices that radically changed the way people perceive Internet.

The examples of web 2.0 class websites are social networking sites, blogging sites like Hubpages, Squidoo, etc; video sharing sites like YouTube, images sharing sites like Flikr; and so on.

Web 2.0 mainly generated by opensource and there are ample possibilities to use them in modern education system, especially as OpenEduCat ERP and in e-learning Web 2.0 provides interactive models for education community.

Highly interactive and dynamic nature of web 2.0 will convert digital education from a medium to a platform where mainstream will take active part.

Web 2.0 Focus on Student-centric Learning

At present our e-learning is restricted up to some publications online, some quizzes and limited interaction. Still student takes backseat like in traditional learning.

However some leading universities has taken initiatives and developed interactive e-learning for their students as well as limited access of general public where they offer chat and other interactive facilities for definite hours in a day. For these they incur hefty fees. Thus, they are not different from closed platform.

While some universities made their courses available for anyone around the globe. In return they get quality students & faculties in more numbers than before.

But this is one way flow between faculty and student and student doesn’t able to get solved their problems. Recent development goes to keep the track where students are everything and they can freely interact with faculty as well as other student.

Administration actively playing parts to collaborate all components of education like faculty, student, parent, technicians and general mass which believes education is lifelong matter.

Admin actively play its role by become reviewers, technicians and administrator for content created by faculty. Guidelines for opensource also applicable for education and education becomes socially open with all rights granted to use the content in new and exciting contexts also can redistributes with generic changes as happens in case of Wikis.

Wikipedia has recently opened a tab where users can put their content using their expertise in a field and others are invited to criticize and make helpful suggestions through comments.

Once moderator approved or made changes accordingly they become a live page. Similarly some photo sharing sites allow educational content/images and enable users to live a note on it. This way educational content generating process becomes student oriented and serves only that student wants.
